Dr. Coker is a native to South Carolina and was born and raised in North Charleston. He received a bachelor of science from the College of Charleston and majored in Biology. He went on to study medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina and graduated in 1984 with a Doctorate of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine also at the Medical University of South Carolina. He has dedicated himself and his practice of cardiology to the tri-county area and has been with Trident Cardiology for over thirty years.
Dr. Coker is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Coker is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys spending time hunting and fishing in his free time. His two boys Jason and Phillip followed in their father’s footsteps and are both physicians having graduated from MUSC as well.
Dr. Kennedy grew up in North Charleston and remained in the area graduating from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science in 1988. He attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a Doctorate of Medicine in 1992. He then went on to complete an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Kansas. He then followed his passion in cardiology to Jacksonville, Florida where he completed a fellowship in cardiology.
In July 1999, he joined Trident Cardiology Associates and is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Kennedy is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking the mountains, and running.
Dr. McCarty was born and raised in Arkansas and after attending Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, he decided on medicine as a career. He earned his Doctorate degree in Medicine from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock prior to expanding his horizons on the east coast. He fell in love with Charleston and completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was fortunate enough to be able to remain in Charleston for fellowship training in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at MUSC. Dr. McCarty joined Trident Cardiology Associates in 2011 after Dr. Von Lehe decided upon a long deserved retirement.
Dr. McCarty is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology. He enjoys spending his free time hanging out with his dog Ozzie at Folly beach and golfing.
Dr. Yarbrough grew up in South Carolina and graduated from Wofford College in 1994. He set on a path toward medicine early on in the footsteps of this father, a medical doctor. He continued on to Charleston where he completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed an internship and residency at the University of Texas, Southwestern, in Dallas, Texas prior to moving back to the Carolinas where he was accepted into a cardiology fellowship at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the Baptist Medical Center. There he also completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology before moving back to Charleston in 2005.
Dr. Yarbrough is board certified in cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology. He loves spending time with his wife and three children. He enjoys playing tennis and golf.
Dr. Funke is a native to Summerville, SC where he grew up and attended Summerville High School. He remained in the area for his undergraduate degree at the College of Charleston studying biology where he also started the college’s club tennis team. He moved on to the Medical University of South Carolina to study medicine and graduated with a Doctorate of Medicine in 2007 from medical school and decided to stay near the ocean for training in internal medicine in Charleston. Deeply rooted locally he pursued a fellowship in cardiology and interventional cardiology at the Medical University in Charleston and then was fortunate enough to join Trident Cardiology Associates in 2014 to serve the community where he was raised.
Dr. Funke is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology. In his free time he enjoys spending time on the water whether it be sailing, fishing, or kitesurfing.
Trinka A. Douglas, RN, MSN, ACNP-BC joined our group in November 2018. She has been a nurse practitioner in Cardiology for many years. She grew up in this area attending Stratford High School, always knowing that she wanted to be in medicine. In 1999, she graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor’s Degree in in Nursing. It is there that her love of cardiology and critical care began. After working for one year in CVIUC and two years in outpatient Cardiology, Trinka decided to further her career. She attended the University of Texas Arlington and obtained her Master’s Degree in Nursing and became a Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Since graduation in 2005, she has worked in Cardiology in Texas and here in the Lowcountry.
In her off time, you can find Trinka and her family around town shopping and enjoying time together. She enjoys Clemson football and hosting gatherings with family and friends.
Christine grew up in Dorchester, SC and first received her Medical Assisting Certificate in 1998 through Trident Technical College and worked as a Medical Assistant for five years in local physician practices before going on to nursing school. Christine attended Trident Technical College and obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing in 2003; then began working for the Trident Health System at Summerville Medical. She transferred to the Critical Care Unit at Trident hospital where she worked for 13 years and obtained her critical care certification through AACN and trauma certification through ENA. Christine worked on the Cardiovascular CCU team for the last 12 years taking care of post-operative cardiac bypass patients and was the CV team coordinator for two years. She completed her Master’s Degree in the Adult/Gerontological Critical Care Nurse Practitioner program in August 2018 and obtained her Acute Care and Gerontologic Certification through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She was eager to join Trident Cardiology to continue working with our physician’s whom she has worked with for the last 15 years and helping cardiac patients in the community. Christine is married and has one son and one step-son. In her spare time Christine enjoys painting, refinishing furniture and the outdoors: hunting, fishing and going to the beach.
Dr. Landes grew up in Northern California. Upon completion of her undergraduate degree at Brandeis University she stayed in Boston, Massachusetts for her Doctorate of Medicine at Tufts University. She then relocated to Los Angeles, California and finished her residency in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She subsequently completed additional specialty cardiovascular fellowship training in Women’s Heart Disease at the Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center. After falling in love with the low country she moved to Charleston, South Carolina for fellowship in cardiology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Landes is excited to join Trident Cardiology Associates.
Her special interests include prevention of atherosclerotic heart disease, angina, women’s heart health, echocardiography and cardio oncology. In her free time Dr. Landes enjoys spending time with her family, reading quietly on the porch swing, and attempting to garden.
Ashley is a nationally certified Physician Assistant. She grew up outside of Frederick, Maryland and relocated to Charleston in 2011 to attend Charleston Southern University. She graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology along with minors in Health Promotion and Spanish. She worked in rural health prior to obtaining her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. Ashley is passionate about patient education and serving the community here in the Tricounty area. She loves to spend time with her husband and her dog Rocky.
Dr. Sandhu grew up in Irmo, SC, and has called Charleston home since the beginning of her medicine training. She graduated from Irmo High School, and went to Atlanta, GA where she completed her BS in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology at Emory University, with a minor in religious studies. She returned to SC for her medical training at the Medical University of South Carolina and was fortunate enough to remain there for the duration of her training through medical school, intern year, medicine residency, cardiology fellowship, and interventional cardiology fellowship. Close family ties and a deep connection to the Charleston community led her to search for employment in Charleston, and she is excited to care for patients locally with the other providers at Trident Cardiology!
Dr. Sandhu is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology. In her free time, she enjoys being outside, reading, watching and playing sports, and spending time with those people that are important to her.

He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine also at the Medical University of South Carolina. He continued his specialty training at MUSC completing his General Cardiology then Interventional Cardiology fellowships.
Dr. Coker is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He spends his free time with his wife, two children and riding road bikes with his dad.
